Everyone needs skills for dealing with potentially violent kids and adults in today’s world. The goal of this workshop is to refresh knowledge and techniques previously learned by participants in order to maintain skills for minimizing violent situations when they occur.

This workshop will help educators:

• Share “real life” crisis situations and discuss the events that resulted.

• Examine techniques staff have used to deescalate verbal acting out.

• Refresh nonverbal techniques that minimize or prevent acting out behaviors.

• Review physical principles of personal safety to avoid injury.

• Critique the physical control techniques used by staff when interventions

are necessary.

• Discuss team intervention strategies.

• Evaluate therapeutic care implemented after an event has occurred.

• Setting limits.
